How Big of a Problem is Spoofing on the Helium Network? (April 2022)
The numbers always thrown out in interviews in the past always seem to be around 5-10%, maybe as high as 15% of the minted HNT. Presumably Nova Labs has some engineering time to keep track of this, but by and large this data hasn't really been presented to the community. Today, I decided to do some verification work and see how accurate this estimate is.
I began by going to the Helium Denylist Github and narrowing down the issues to April 2022. There were 593 open and 179 closed, which is about 24 pages worth of open and 8 pages worth of closed issues. Without knowing how to scrape this data, I decided to do the work manually and have compiled about 25% of the data and extrapolated out the results from there. [I would compare this to an election where 25% of the precincts have reported in. It's a small sample size but I don't have the time to go through all the pages manually. I'm new to coding but can hopefully learn to automate this in the next few months.]
