Higher Voltage DC Grounding: 50-300VDC
Anything above 50VDC is required to be grounded by the NEC
A bond must be made to the return conductor
Can be made directly at the power source
Also can be made at first place where the circuit is interrupted
CANNOT be made at both
Grounding electrode conductor cannot be smaller than the largest conductor in the DC circuit
Low Voltage DC Grounding: 50VDC or less
NEC does not require grounding in these systems
However, it is best practice to provide proper grounding whenever possible
All of the same rules can be followed for the higher voltage DC systems
One main difference is that is more common to see the negative lead be grounded in the lower voltage systems
Ensure properly labeling to avoiding confusion when grounding these systems
