The Historical Development of Artificial Intelligence | ICT Lesson 1– Prep 2 - Term 2|MR-khaled samy
Artificial Intelligence
✔ قصة Alan Turing واختبار الذكاء
✔ بداية ظهور مصطلح AI
✔ الفرق بين Machine Learning و Deep Learning
✔ ليه الذكاء الاصطناعي مهم لمستقبلك

Lesson 1
The Historical Development of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
is not a modern idea? Humans have dreamed of thinking
machines since ancient times.
And this appeared in (Myths - Philosophy - Old mechanics)
But this wasn't artificial intelligence in the modern sense.
The modern age of artificial intelligence
1- Alan Turing (1950) asked:
'Can machines think?' He created the Turing Test to
check if a machine can imitate human thinking.
( Turing Test ) If you're communicating with someone via
messages and you don't know if they're a human or a
computer → then the program is smart and has passed the test.
2- Dartmouth Conference (1956):
The term 'Artificial Intelligence' was officially introduced.
(Scientists have come together with the goal of creating
machines that learn and think like humans.)
3- Years of Enthusiasm (1956–1970):
The first artificial intelligence programs were created, but
they were: - -Very slow -poor memory -Program examples:
→Logic Theorist: - He solves logical problems
→General Problem Solver: - It solves problems step by step.
4- Expert Systems (1970–1980):
A new idea: We teach the computer the expertise of
specialists
Programs like (MYCIN) helped doctors diagnose diseases
using expert knowledge.
5- AI Winter (1980–1990):
Major challenges
Progress slowed due to high costs, slow computers, and
limited results.
6- Renaissance (1990–2010): - Huge amounts of Data- Internet - Machine Learning appeared. Computers learned
from data. A computer defeated the chess world champion.
7- Modern Revolution (2010–Present):
Deep Learning uses Artificial Neural Networks similar to the human brain. AI defeated
champions in complex games like
Alpha Go. More difficult than chess.
Key Terms – VERY IMPORTANT
1 Artificial Intelligence: Making machines think and learn like humans.
2 Machine Learning: Teaching computers to learn from data.
3 Deep Learning: Advanced machine learning using neural networks.
