MATCH REPORT – Men’s Seniors
Match 1594 | 27/02/26 | Dockerty Cup Round 2
📍 Ross Reserve, Noble Park
In Round 2 of the Dockerty Cup, Mooroolbark travelled to Ross Reserve for the first time in 15 years and came away 4-1 winners over Springvale City SC.
Scorers
Springvale City – Daniel Bailey (32’)
Mooroolbark – Ryan Smith (44’), Ross Clark (58’, 88’), Joshua Cauteruccio (90+3’)
On a humid night in Noble Park, Barkers handed senior debuts to Joshua Cauteruccio, Hugo Lindsay-Geyer and Georgi Spasov, with Charlie Cunningham and Wahid Mahdawi set to enter from the bench.
City started brightly and nearly opened the scoring inside four minutes, but Vladi Velikin produced a sharp save from close range. Barkers responded quickly, with Ryan Smith heading wide from a left-sided cross. Springvale looked dangerous down their left, but Lindsay-Geyer stood up well defensively in his first outing.
As the half wore on, Barkers began to control possession. Ross Clark was heavily involved, while Smith and Spasov both had half chances. However, after a strong spell, a turnover in midfield allowed City to break, and Daniel Bailey finished from a tight angle to give the hosts a 1-0 lead on 32 minutes.
The response was immediate. Michael Pezzano and Christian Porcaro combined well down the left, and after sustained pressure, Barkers found their equaliser just before half-time. A right-sided corner was delivered to the far post, where Ryan Smith rose highest to head home and level the scores at 1-1 heading into the break.
Barkers carried that momentum into the second half. Daniel Aye and Spasov both went close before the breakthrough arrived. Porcaro delivered low from the left, Spasov laid the ball back intelligently, and Ross Clark smashed home to give Mooroolbark a 2-1 lead.
The visitors continued to press. Cunningham made an immediate impact off the bench, creating space and linking play well. Clark and Cauteruccio both went close as Barkers pushed to seal the contest.
With nine minutes remaining, Clark was brought down on the edge of the area by Nathaniel Daher, who was shown a red card. Although the resulting free kick was blocked, the extra man began to tell. City almost equalised against the run of play when a looping shot struck the crossbar, but Barkers responded decisively.
Anthony Di Crea combined neatly with Clark, who calmly finished for his second and Mooroolbark’s third on 88 minutes. Shortly after, City were reduced to nine men following a second dismissal. In stoppage time, Di Crea again provided the assist, laying the ball back for Cauteruccio to strike first time into the bottom corner, marking his debut with a goal and sealing a 4-1 victory.
It was a composed performance after a slow start, with encouraging signs from the new additions. Clark was tireless, Spasov and Cunningham were lively, Lindsay-Geyer battled hard, and Cauteruccio showed real class on debut. A strong team display ultimately proved too much for the Division 4 hosts.
