In the Sohrabuddin encounter case, the Bombay High Court acquitted all five policemen, including former ATS chief of Gujarat, from the charges. The High Court retained the lower court's verdict. The High Court retained the lower court's verdict.
Justice Badar heard the matter for about two weeks in July every day. Five reconsideration petitions were filed against the decision to free the charges in the High Court. Apart from this, the appeal was made on behalf of Vipul Agarwal and the charges were framed. Sohrabuddin's brother Rubabuddin had challenged the lower court's decision to acquit Vanzara and Pandian to be acquitted of charges in the Bombay High Court. The CBI filed a petition against Amin and Rathod for freeing the charges.
Apart from Vanzara of Gujarat Police in the Sohrabuddin Eknurant case, the Bombay High Court acquits Rajkumar Pandian, NK Amin and Dinesh MN of Rajasthan Police, Dalpat Singh Rathore. Justice AM Badar acquitted Gujarat Police Officer Vipul Agarwal from charges in the case of encounter of Sourabhuddin, his wife Kausar B and associate Tulsi Ram Prajapati in 2005-06. However, the lower court rejected Agarwal's plea.
The CBI had accused 38 people in this case. After the Supreme Court order, the hearing of this case was shifted from Gujarat to a special court in Mumbai. The special court had exempted 15 people. These included 14 police officers and current BJP president Amit Shah.
