Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine Tour - Colorado

Описание: The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine is a historic vertical shaft mine, in Cripple Creek, Colorado. The mine shaft descends 1,000 feet (300 m) into the mountain, a depth roughly equal to the height of the Empire State Building in New York City. The mine was started in 1891 on a mining claim staked by Mollie Kathleen Gortner, after whom the mine was named.

Since 1961, this mine has been an area tourist attraction. There are other working gold mines nearby, which produce some of the richest gold material deposits, in Colorado. On this tour, you enter an elevator shaft which descends 1,000 feet down. This is a guided, one hour tour, seeing and experiencing what Old West hard rock miners experienced. Some highlights are: the evolution of underground mining, viewing gold veins in their natural state, experiencing the sights and sounds of mining equipment (more interesting than you would think!) and near the end of the tour you get to choose a free gold ore smple to take with you.

This mine is located in what is called "The World’s Greatest Gold Camp," Cripple Creek, Colorado. It is a short drive to Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs.

Pleas note: On Thursday, October 10, 2024, during a tour at Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, the elevator malfunctioned, killing one tour guide, injuring four, and leaving twelve others trapped underground—eleven tourists and a mine worker. Eleven others were rescued. Authorities hoped to repair the elevator but had a fire department crew ready for a rescue operation. All twelve people were evacuated via the elevator that Thursday evening. Authorities have made the decision that the equipment did not play any part in this incident and the issue was a user error. The was mine was able to reopen this year for tours. I found the tour guide and other workers there, both friendly, safety conscious and made all tourists there aware of dangers and all safety regulations. I felt completely safe relaxed and at ease.
