It doesn't take long for a few unsterilised dogs and cats to help start an over-population crisis whether it’s on an island, in a city or within an entire country.

This is what Sattahip Naval Base, the largest naval base in Thailand, located in Chonburi province experienced, with an ever-increasing number of stray dogs and cats within the confines of the base.

The property not only had many free-roaming dogs and cats to deal with, but in order to solve the issue, they had to resort to creating ‘shelters’ within the base.

We visited Sattahip Naval Base early back in 2020 and worked with the officers of the base to help them work out a strategy to help manage the situation. Watch the video to learn more. 📹

Since then, they have been heavily promoting adoptions of animals who are already inside the ‘shelters’, they’ve put aside an annual budget for neutering and vaccinating of stray animals within the base, as well as work with the families and members of staff to ensure that all new pets brought into the shelter are neutered.

Sattahip Naval Base is an example of how an explosion of stray dogs and cats could easily happen. It is also an example of how working with relevant stake-holders we can turn things around and make the lives of stray dogs and cats as well as the community so much better.
