A short and simple tribute to the first champ I ever played. He doesn’t have much other than himself to draw upon thematically (as far as I know he doesn’t even have a region he’s primarily associated with), so I flavoured it with a Freljordian feel based on his story with Brand and the fight with the Watcher in Call of Power. Ryze’s theme doesn’t seem to get much acclaim, but I enjoy that thumping rhythm in the chorus and I’m a sucker for leading cello melodies. Which I am now realising I’ve gone and buried beneath the vocals. Oops.

I really wanted to focus on improving my mixing for this one. There are no fancy vocal effects for me to worry about here, just a simple set of doubles and harmonies (and a note that is quite simply out of my range but not enough to stop me trying it lmaooooooo).

That’s how you improve, right? By starting simple?

But even though this mix/master is leagues better (heh) than my earlier ones like Undisputed or Camavor’s Lullaby, I can tell it doesn’t sound “professional” and can’t tell what exactly I’m missing. Did I not compress it enough? Are the equaliser settings wrong? Is my recording equipment incapable of that kind of sound? Do I just need to be a better singer? Or is it just the result of recording vocals over already-mastered instrumentals that weren’t created with vocals in mind? I don’t know. I don’t know anything at all. But I’m making these anyway. How foolish of me.

Next one should be soon. Depends how many League games I still have to grind for Ashen Pyke.
