After the massively publicised launch of Tina Brown's new publication TALK this week, the US celebrity magazine industry was back in the news again this week with Brown's old publication Vanity Fair publishing photos of CAROLYN BESSETTE KENNEDY.
Carolyn, her husband JOHN F. KENNEDY Jr. and her sister all died when the plane they were travelling in last month crashed into the sea on its way to Martha's Vineyard, Mass.
The couple and sisterinlaw, Lauren Bessette, were on their way to a family wedding when their plane disappeared over the ocean last month.
The neverbefore released photographs of Carolyn are being published in the September issue of the American version of "Vanity Fair." She posed for the photos for a small New York magazine called "Joe."
From the time she married John F. Kennedy Jr., Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was a favourite target of the "paparazzi," the photographers who follow celebrities.
Apparently, she agreed to pose for photographer Bruce Weber because he was not a member of the socalled paparazzi. She wanted to have photos taken that showed her in a positive light.
Carolyn Bessette Kennedy posed for the photos on Long Island, New York, in 1997.
In the photos, she appears in a very natural manner, often with the dog she and her husband owned, whose name is "Friday."
Elise O'Shaughnessy, Contributing Editor, Vanity Fair said that apparently John F. Kennedy, Jr. kept one of the photos of his wife from this group on his desk.
The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the cause of the plane crash that killed John F. Kennedy, Jr., Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and her sister, Lauren Bessette.
Grief and disbelief grew in the U.S. and around the world and the loss of America's favourite son was likened to the tragic death of Britain's Princess Diana.
John Kennedy Junior and Carolyn Bessette were the uncrowned king and queen of American high society. John, 38, was voted 'sexiest man alive' by US People Magazine and his good looks and charm endeared him to everyone he met.
His stunning wife Carolyn 33 was once voted the 'Ultimate Beautiful Person' by her classmates at school in Greenwich, Connecticut. The stepdaughter of a wealthy doctor, she matured into an elegant and intelligent woman destined for great things.
Fate intervened and their paths finally crossed in 1994 while Carolyn was working for Calvin Klein as a public relations assistant. After a string of high profile affairs with movie stars, supermodels and singers, Carolyn was the the smart and sophisticated woman Kennedy Jnr had been looking for to settle down with.
Just like his father before him, John Kennedy Junior had a reputation as a playboy and womaniser. In the early '80's he allegedly had a passionate affair with Madonna and a decade later he had a serious relationship with actress Daryl Hannah. Other showbiz beauties he was linked with over the years included Cindy Crawford, Elle MacPherson, Julia Roberts, Brooke Shields and Princess Stephanie of Monaco.
With his womanising days behind him, Kennedy Junior tried his hand at journalism with the launch in 1995 of the glossy political magazine 'George.' Ironically the magazine is reportedly on the verge of closure. In the cut throat world of American magazine publishing, this would be good news for Vanity Fair and the new Talk.
