This week we return to the works of Hammer Film Productions, having previously examined 1959’s Yesterday’s Enemy, with their first foray into the war movie genre – ‘The Steel Bayonet‘. Leo Genn leads a company of battle-weary troops as they are ordered to defend an artillery observation post in Tunisia in 1943.
The film features a strong cast along with some fantastic depictions of Bren guns and the PIAT, it was Michael Carreras’ first directorial effort and it perhaps boasts a more gritty feel than many of its contemporaries. Join us as we take a look at this often overlooked classic.
