Stony Brook Heart Institute offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a serious type of cardiovascular disease and also happens to be the most common. It occurs when a buildup of cholesterol, fat, and other substances (plaque) accumulate in the walls of the coronary arteries, which supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. This plaque buildup can narrow the arteries, reducing blood flow, which can lead to chest pain (angina), heart attacks, or heart failure. In this episode of HEALTH Yeah!, experts from Stony Brook Medicine discuss CAD, including signs, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and more.
