This time I have edited the lyrics in two translations, in case if any spanish-speaker like to understand the content of the
Note: Keep in mind that I'm not 100% sure if the translations from quechua to spanish and english are correct.
About the piece:
Composed around 1631 by Juan Pérez Bocanegra, a mestizo and a jesuit priest.
This piece is considered the first polyphonic work of the Americas, it was composed in the Viceroyalty or the Realm of Peru (a realm of the Spanish Empire). It is a processional hymn sung in the language of the Incas, Quechua, and one of the oldest hymns dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Although the work was published in Lima (a.k.a. the City of the Kings) in 1631, the composition of its text and music dates from before the year 1622.
It's interesting that the Kings of (the) Spain(s) consider themselves as continuation of the line as Emperors of the Inca Empire.
Enjoy this little Marian praise! 🇻🇦✝️🇵🇪🇯🇪
