Assisted Laser Hatching is a procedure used in IVF to enhance embryo implantation and increase the chances of a successful pregnancy.
During IVF, after the eggs are retrieved and fertilized in the laboratory, the resulting embryos need to attach to the uterine lining for successful implantation. Assisted Laser Hatching is performed on the embryo just before it's transferred to the uterus.
Using a special laser device, a trained embryologist creates a small opening or thinning in the protective outer layer of the embryo, known as the zona pellucida. This precise laser procedure aims to facilitate the embryo's hatching process, allowing it to break through the zona pellucida and implant in the uterus more easily.
Assisted Laser Hatching can be beneficial in certain cases, such as advanced maternal age, thickened zona pellucida, or previously failed IVF attempts. By creating a controlled opening in the zona pellucida, it may increase the chances of successful implantation and improve pregnancy rates.
Assisted Laser Hatching is a safe and well-established technique, performed by skilled professionals in a controlled laboratory setting. The laser used is precise and minimizes the risk of damage to the embryo. The embryologist carefully monitors and controls the laser energy to ensure the best possible outcome.
