Ever want to know what a swaybar bushing looks like? Or a swaybar link looks like? Well in this video, I highlight the three main areas of the swaybar links bushings and sway bar itself on this Mountaineer.
Now the swaybar's swaybar bushings in the swaybar links are used to control the steering roll on the vehicle. It's very important to have these links and bushings and stabilizer bar all working together smoothly with no broken blinks bars or bushings.
Commonly the links are the ones that break the most often. They can wear, they can rattle, or in this particular case shear off from the top of where they connect to the sway bar itself.
When the links to break you typically have a very loose or Moshe sensation in the steering. Lateral movement becomes very sloppy and when you're going into a turn or corner, the vehicle will roll into the turn a little bit more heavier than normal.
This could be a dangerous situation if you are to maneuver out of harms way while driving. Or, you must take a severe turn at a higher speed. Your reaction time will be compromised because the steering can become less responsive.
Typically, these links and bushings me whereat between the 60,000 mile mark and the hundred thousand mile mark. They should be inspected during all service intervals, and replaced when the rubber bushings begin to flare out from the retainers or cracking is noticeable on the bushings themselves. As for the sway bar bushings they to get replaced periodically
The bushings can cause a binding sensation which adds to the fatigue levels of the sway bar links. The links become stressed and cannot handle the additional load or pressure that the bar will induce.
