"Honestly, I had no expectations when I started writing the books. I didn't even know that anyone would be interested in them. I just felt inspired to share some life lessons that I've learnt over the past few years with children. And I was all surprised that things worked out as well as they did, and that people were so enthusiastic about them. So no I did not expect it."

10. SOUNDBITE Madonna (in English) "What do my children think of it. Well, my son is only three and is not good at sitting still. If it's not about a truck or a car, he's not interested. But my daughter loves them and I tested them all out on her and she was very helpful to me through the whole writing process. So, she's a big fan of them."

12. SOUNDBITE Madonna (in English) "When I published the book "Sex", I was in a point in my life where I was interested in pushing boundaries and questioning society, and dealing with taboo subjects. And I was into showing off. And I was interested in myself essentially. And when I think about where, and obviously I'm writing children's books now and I'm interested in children. And I look back at the journey that I've made from then until now, and I'm actually quite proud of my journey because the sex book was about me, and saying "hey, look at me". And the children's books are about, hopefully, imparting some wisdom to people, to children."

14. SOUNDBITE Madonna (in English) "The inspiration for writing the books came in several ways. First of all it was suggested to me by one of my Kabbalah teachers, that I should, because I said to him, you know one of the things that you learn in Kabbalah is that the way to make miracles happening in your life is to do things, just for the sake of sharing. And, so, I thought to myself, what could I do that doesn't have anything to do with what I get out of it. And he suggested that I write children's books. And I didn't think much of the idea, but then I started paying a lot of attention to the books I was reading to my daughter and I did not think that there were a lot of spiritual lessons in a lot of the books that I was reading my daughter and it suddenly dawned on me that it actually was a good idea. That was the beginning of that journey."

16. SOUNDBITE Madonna (in English) "The title came from my daughter. I went to my daughter's school. She goes to the Lycee in London, the French school. I was having a meeting with her teacher and she told me, I asked her if she had a lot of friends and if she was social. And she said yes she hangs out with the 'English Roses', we call them the 'English Roses'. And I said what's that? She said oh it's a group of...there's four girls, they are all English and they sort of stick together because almost everybody else in this school is French. And I thought that it was really cute and clever that at a French school there would be a group of girls called 'The English Roses' and that gave me the idea for the title."
