On May 24, 2020, Corporal Renae Peterson of the City of Monroe Police Department was shot twice while attempting to apprehend two armed subjects who were suspected of a carjacking. Corporal Peterson was treated at the scene and survived due to the efforts of the first responders of the Monroe Police Department, Monroe County Ambulance, the Frenchtown Fire Department, and citizens who stopped to help. She was then transported to the Intensive Care Unit at Mercy Health - Saint Vincent Medical Center.
Corporal Peterson spent over two weeks on a ventilator fighting for her life.
She battled hard and was provided excellent medical care by the hospital staff.
On June 16, 2020, Corporal Peterson was released from Mercy Health - Saint Vincent Hospital and the Monroe Police Department family was there to celebrate her discharge. The Peterson family and the Monroe PD wanted to share part of this experience with our community.
The Peterson family and the Monroe Police Department want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the citizens who have supported Corporal Peterson, the Monroe PD and Law Enforcement.
