Moscow came under another drone attack early Monday, with Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirming nearly 60 drones were shot down as they approached the Russian capital. Emergency services were sent to the areas where the drones came down. The attack briefly disrupted air travel, forcing Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovskiy airports to suspend flights before operations resumed, according to Russia's aviation watchdog.
This is the latest in a string of strikes on the city. Just days earlier, drones again struck Moscow's only oil refinery, in what authorities described as one of the largest air assaults on the capital since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022 — with nearly 200 drones intercepted in that single attack.
The fallout is also being felt far from Moscow. In Russia-annexed Crimea, the city of Sevastopol cancelled all outdoor public events and is keeping street lights off, with governor Mikhail Razvozhayev urging residents to cut back on electricity use. Crimea, normally a major draw for Russian tourists, has also suspended fuel sales to ordinary citizens and businesses, limiting supplies to government agencies handling essential services and security — a direct result of Ukrainian drone strikes on fuel supply routes and energy infrastructure across the peninsula.
Together, these developments point to a sustained Ukrainian campaign targeting Russian energy and transport infrastructure, with effects rippling into daily life — from grounded flights in Moscow to fuel shortages in Crimea. As the war grinds on, both sides continue to test each other's air defenses and supply lines, with consequences for civilians on both sides of the front.
