Описание: Namibia’s many coloured gemstones are valued for their spectacular beauty - as collectors’ pieces or set in jewellery, either faceted, cut and polished, or in their rough form. Gemstones have been appreciated for thousands of years. There are records of them from ancient civilisations to the present time. And their allure keeps growing.

It was the gemstones in the breastplate of a high priest, mentioned in Exodus in the Old Testament, that first caught the interest of gemstone collector and science-teacher Marietjie Burger. She began to research the stones, their chemical composition and crystalline structure. She was ideally located to delve into the world of minerals, living in Karibib, the centre of the small mining sector in Namibia. And as a creator of bead- and cabochon-jewellery she was already well set on the mineral path. She bought some stones from a miner who knocked on her door and when the news got out, she found herself frequently viewing and purchasing stones, soon becoming an avid collector.

But, it was more than the magnificent specimens that caught Marietjie’s attention. She stumbled, unintentionally, onto the discovery that the stones had properties that went deeper than what was immediately apparent to the eye. Although new to her, the healing properties of stones are well-documented worldwide and there is evidence of that knowledge reaching far back in time. Even the ancient Romans believed in the metaphysical properties of stones and the wearing of amulets for protection and love. Today, there is an ever-increasing interest in the healing properties of stones.

With her rational brain and scientific background, it made perfect sense that stones could have deeper properties. After all, Einstein gave a hint when he said that everything has energy, vibration and frequency. Marietjie understands that the frequency depends on the energy in the stone and the vibration on the type of crystal. And if we are energetic beings, then it follows that the stable compositions found in crystals could affect and raise our more volatile energy levels. She went further into her investigation, gathering the wealth of information available, and designed her own easy-to understand posters, describing and illustrating the seven energy centres of the body and the crystals and properties associated with them.

For Marietjie, this understanding of crystals makes her appreciate the Namibian gemstones even more. And whether you believe that stones have healing properties or not, it is undeniable that a sparkling clear quartz crystal or an exquisite cluster of amethyst lifts the spirit and delights the soul.
