MY WILD HOLM S4 EP19 — Life on our remote island homestead usually settles into a rhythm. The off grid cabin build continues as Ryan works his way around the exterior siding. Tools come out, small projects get done, and little by little this rugged piece of land is transforming into a home.
But the island has a way of changing the plan...
In this episode we build a proper clothesline platform overlooking the lake so Melodi can finally hang laundry in the open air. Ryan continues working around the back wall of the cabin, pushing the siding closer to completion. Around the homestead the orchard, greenhouse, and garden areas are slowly taking shape as the island begins to feel more lived in.
This season we’ve also been dealing with something new. We have been plagued with large flying beetles flitting everywhere around the cabin and trees. These White Spotted Sawyer Beetles seem determined to make the island their territory. They land on us, buzz past the camera, and generally make their presence known.
Just as the day starts winding down and the work is nearly finished, a storm rolls across the lake. Thunder cracks overhead and Ryan races to restore power before the rain hits.
That’s life out here in northern British Columbia. Some progress, a few surprises, and plenty of moments you just can’t plan for.
Thanks for being part of our journey.
