Tobias Heeringa is the founder of Uproot, a vertical farming startup born right out of Auckland city. While his background is in graphic design, a recent growing concern for the degradation of New Zealand’s environment at the hands of agriculture has inspired him to help kickstart a better alternative. As part of his creative technologies degree at AUT, he and four others worked to form Uproot, using the existing technology of aeroponics to grow leafy green vegetables locally, and sustainably. He believes we can use this technology to disrupt the way New Zealand produces food and contribute to a culture of respect for our environment.
