Thor Odinson, your 'friend from work', had finally lived up to his promise of taking you to visit his home of Asgard. Upon arriving through the Bifrost that morning, you found it to be even more beautiful than you could ever imagine. At the palace, you were greeted by a group of handmaidens as they led you to be dressed for the lavish ball being held that evening. You had been adorned in the finest silver and gold jewelry that perfectly accented your silk blue gown that glistened in the light. After hours of preparation, you were ready. But the ball had already begun!

"You're late." Thor smirks as you meet him amidst the great hall filled with Asgardians. You quickly return the smirk.

"Fashionably, mind you. How else would I have gotten this dolled up without time and patience? Though this crown thing is giving me the worst migraine ... I thought they were supposed to go atop your head, not plastered to your face."

"Oh, that's a crown. I thought it was a big eyebrow."

Thor snickers as you playfully hit his arm with the back of your hand, "Very funny, Odinson."

"I'm sure Loki could have whipped up something more comfortable for you, he wouldn't have minded at all." Still smirking, Thor offers you his arm which you take.

"Loki ... I thought he was dead again?"

"Oh, yeah! Loki- Loki's alive, can you believe it? He's up there!" Thor points toward the set of steps nearing Odin's throne where Loki is mingling with fellow Asgardians, "Loki, look who it is!"

You and Thor approach Loki just after his attention is caught.

"Remember, brother, the Midgardian we befriended during our travels?"

"Ah ... hello." Loki gives a soft smile, subtly avoiding eye contact with you.

"It's a pleasure to meet you again, Loki. Had any drinks since the party started?"

"Not yet, looking forward to it."

"We are most DEFINITELY looking forward to it," Thor interrupts boisterously, "best part of these balls is not remembering them."

"I suppose drinks first then!" you laugh, "I only hope Macbeth over here doesn't get all stabby in his drunkenness."

"Yes, me too. On many occasions ... This one time when we were children, he transformed himself into a snake and he knows that I love snakes. So I went to pick up the snake to admire it, and he transformed back into himself and he was like 'bYAAH ITS ME!' and he stabbed me. We were 8 at the time."

Loki smiles and shakes his head after hearing the anecdote, "To be fair, I got back at you for the incident which shan't be named, brother. And to think they called ME the God of Mischief."

"I thought you liked tricks?" Thor laughs to himself.

"I'm not overly fond of what follows," Loki says, "especially coming from you."

"Alright, boys, no fighting. I think that's a good note to get drinks on."

"But of course!" Thor exclaims excitedly, "Shall we go find some, the three of us?"

"Oh, Thor ... I was hoping to have a chat with Loki before we get back to you," turning to face Loki, you notice his eyes have slightly widened on hearing this proposition, "to catch up a bit?"

Thor's face sours a moment before loosening up as he jokingly throws his hands in the air and turns away from you and Loki, "Fine! I'll just get drunk by myself, just like always."

You laugh for a moment as he walks away, "Maybe he won't get so lonely after all."

"Maybe not." Loki smiles down at you.

"I never thought that I'd sense some demented sort of LOVE, of all things, between you brothers. Truly a sight to behold."

Loki laughs genuinely for the first time, before a pause stands between you two.

"So," Loki starts after the quiet moment, "on the subject of love, is there a lucky beau waiting for you on the end of this crusade?"

"Beau? Me? Goodness no. I've become far too busy sorting out my own problems. I certainly couldn't take on another living being's problems too."

"I understand that, almost too well ... love is not my forte."

"It frightens me. I've been hurt too many times by it to even think about the concept."

There's another pause. Loki gazes at your sad expression before gently taking your hand.

"Midgardian, I've been where you are. I've felt what you feel. Don't ask me how I know ... all I know is that I don't want to hurt you. I just ... I just want you to be okay."

Another pause. You finally sigh and smile up at him.

"Thank you, Loki ... for caring. I do admit I've always found your company very calming, I hope you realize that."

"I feel the same about your company as well ... but I am happy that I could be of help to you. I never want to see you upset again, understood?"

The two of you share a soft laugh.

"But ... If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now."

The two of you laugh once more before going to find Thor together.
