The emotional fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic has led to increased depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Public leaders need a simple, scalable and effective toolkit to help millions of people cope with the situation. Could reappraisal, an emotion regulation strategy that involves changing the way on thinks about a situation, be part of that toolkit? New research suggests that it may be an effective response to the emotional challenges wrought by the pandemic and other global crises.
