Venezuela earthquakes: crisis deepens as those impacted lack water, shelter

Описание: For families in Venezuela, the aftermath of the historic twin earthquakes has resulted in collapsed homes, the loss of loved ones and an uncertain future. Now as the recovery continues, Ottawa says it will match up to $4 million in public donations to help those impacted by the disaster.

Claudia Gonzalez from World Vision Venezuela is in Caracas, where her team is supporting those in need. Along with the growing risk of disease, she says there’s an urgent need for safe drinking water and shelter space.

"We don't have enough structures in Venezuela to give them a new home. The government says they're going to construct some new apartments and new buildings, but that is going to take 6-7 months," Gonzalez added.

As Global's Jazan Grewal-Pabla reports, the situation in Venezuela is being described as a crisis within a crisis and some warn it could take years to rebuild the country.
