Cow's Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) is a common condition that affects infants and young children. In this video, we will explore what CMPA is, its symptoms, and how it can be diagnosed & managed.
CMPA occurs when the body's immune system reacts to the protein in cow's milk, leading to a range of symptoms such as skin rashes, digestive issues, respiratory problems, and even anaphylaxis in severe cases.
Symptoms of CMPA can vary from mild to severe and may include colic, diarrhea, vomitings/ reflux , skin rashes, and sometimes noisy breathing & breathing difficulty . In some cases, the symptoms may be delayed, making it difficult to identify the cause.
If CMPA is suspected, your doctor will usually recommend eliminating cow's milk from the baby's diet and replacing it with a specialized formula . In breastfed babies it's uncommon but can occur. In such cases Breastfeeding mothers need to avoid milk and dairy products in their diet .
Managing CMPA can be challenging for parents . However, with the right medical support and guidance, it is possible to manage CMPA and ensure that the baby receives all the necessary nutrients for healthy growth and development.
If your child is showing symptoms suggestive of CMPA, consult Pediatric gastroenterologist so that it is timely diagnosed and properly treated.
