Sundal recipe - Field beans / Broad beans sundal / Mochai payaru sundal
Navratri and Sundal are inseparable. We can make sundal with many legumes and lentils like moong beans, peanuts, black eyed peas, chickpeas, corn etc. Whenever I think of Navratri, sundal comes in my mind immediately. Sundal or cooked pulses, which is given as Prasadam for Navrathri. Sundal preparation is very easy and simple. Usually sundals are soaked overnight or 6 to 8 hours before preparation, finally tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves, red or green chili and asafoetida. Sweet sundals are also made. These are protein rich snack too. Here i have tried chickpeas sundal. Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you.

INGREDIENTS:
field beans - 1 cup
salt - as required
oil - 2 to 3 tbsp
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
urad dal - 1/2 tsp
cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
green chilli - 1 or 2
ginger chopped - 1tsp
curry leaves - few
asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
coconut shredded- 1 or 2 tbsp
METHOD:
1. Take 1 cup of field beans or Mochai.
2. Clean and soak it overnight or 6 to 8 hrs.
3. Add required salt, half cup of water and pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles.
4. Pour some oil in a pan and allow it to heat.
5. Add the mustard seeds and urad dal to the pan.
6. Let the urad dal turn brown and mustard seeds pop.
7. Add cumin seeds, chopped green chillis, finely chopped ginger, curry leaves, turmeric powder and asafoetida . Saute well for a minute.
8. Now add the cooked mochai to the pan, add salt if required and saute everything well till the water evaporates.
9. Add some grated coconut to the sundal and saute for a minute.
10. Our sundal is ready. Serve hot.
