How to Achieve End-to-End Observability with OpenTelemetry and Elastic Search

What you will see in this demo:
OpenTelemetry Overview: An explanation of what OpenTelemetry is, its components (SDK, Collector, back end), its benefits, and the problems it solves, such as providing a standardized way to collect telemetry data using the OTLP protocol.

Observability Basics: Telemetry data is defined as a combination of metrics (numbers over time like CPU, memory, latency), traces (request flow from user to API to DB), and logs (discrete events).

Architecture: The demo showcases a microservices-based application built on different languages (C, C++, Java, Go, Ruby, etc.). This application is auto-instrumented using OpenTelemetry SDKs to collect traces, metrics, and logs.

Data Flow: The collected telemetry data is sent to the Otel Collector, which acts as a gateway and an agent. The Collector uses the OTLP protocol to receive data.
Traces and metrics are pushed to the Elastic APM Server.9
Logs are stored directly into Elastic Search.

All data is accessed and visualized through Kibana.

Key Features: The setup highlights vendor-neutral instrumentation and multi-destination support, allowing the same telemetry data to be pushed to multiple observability tools (like Elastic Search and Prometheus/Grafana) for comparison without changing the application's back end.
