ISRO has a nuclear rocket programme expressly meant to launch satellites. Last year, the first stage of an atomic-powered engine was successfully tested on India’s lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3.
Collaboration with BARC & ISRO is developing the nuclear thermal propellant rocket engine in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC)The first part was tested on Chandrayaan-3 mission.

ISRO is currently in the conceptual phase of developing a nuclear rocket engine & Research and Development:-- ISRO is conducting research and development activities to overcome technical challenges.

Objectives:------------------
High-Power Propulsion: Develop a high-power propulsion system for future deep space missions.
Long-Duration Missions: Enable long-duration missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
Heavy Payload Capacity: Increase payload capacity to support larger and more complex spacecraft.
Improved Efficiency: Achieve higher specific impulse (efficiency) compared to traditional chemical propulsion systems.
