Tips to Help You to Hand Sew Faster | Ft. Hand Sewing an 18th Century Petticoat

Описание: Hopefully, some of these tips will be helpful to those exploring historical sewing, mending, and other kinds of hand sewing! As you sew more, your sewing will become faster, and as you make similar items multiple times (such as multiple petticoats), your skills and speed will improve with each new garment. For those of you who might be wondering, here is the breakdown of the time it took me to make the linen dimity petticoat:
45 minutes - side seams
45 minutes - hemming pocket slits
20 minutes - finger pressing the hem (because linen holds a fold really well, I did this in place of basting)
120 minutes - hemming
140 minutes - pleating and waistband (this took longer than it should have because I had to piece the linen tape for my waist ties as my tape was too short)
35 minutes - miscellaneous ironing
Total: 6 hours and 45 minutes
