This quartet from Bradford, England formed in 1986 as Spoilt Bratz, and quickly fused rock, funk and thrash influences into an infectiously upbeat pop metal style. Tony Wright (6 May 1968, Yorkshire, England; vocals), Mark Yates (b. 4 April 1968, Bradford, Yorkshire, England; guitar), Leigh Marklew (b. 10 August 1968, England; bass), and Shutty (b. 20 March 1967, England; drums) were signed by EMI Records on the strength of their ‘Pump Action Sunshine’ demo, and negotiated the formation of their own label name, Total Vegas. Two remixed demo tracks, ‘Urban Space Crime’ and ‘Jason’, appeared on the Thrive EP as Terrorvision followed a hectic touring schedule prior to the release of Formaldehyde. The debut produced minor hits in ‘American TV’ and ‘New Policy One’, and was backed by UK and European tours with the Ramones and Motörhead, respectively, while Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott was sufficiently impressed to invite Terrorvision to open Def Leppard’s 1993 show at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium.
The following year proved to be quite memorable for Terrorvision, beginning with their UK Top 30 breakthrough with ‘My House’. How To Make Friends And Influence People emerged to rave reviews and entered the UK Top 20, bringing the band their first silver disc, and produced four more Top 30 singles in ‘Oblivion’, ‘Middleman’, ‘Pretend Best Friend’ and ‘Alice, What’s The Matter?’. They also played both the Reading and Donington Festival s, in addition to two sold-out UK tours and a series of European dates, before moving on to work on a new album in 1995. Major critical acclaim and healthy sales accompanied their most commercial and assured work to date with Regular Urban Survivors. Exactly 10 years after they were formed as the Spoilt Bratz, Terrorvision finally made the big screen with the Top 5 single ‘Perseverance’. They maintained their commercial momentum with Shaving Peaches, and their highest-charting UK single, ‘Tequila’, which reached number 2 in January 1999. Shortly afterwards, however, they left long-standing label EMI. Their new album, Good To Go, marked a return to the rough and ready exuberance of their earlier material. Shortly afterwards the band announced they were to split-up. A final series of UK concerts was followed by the release of the compilation set, Whales & Dolphins. The split only lasted a couple of years, however, with the quartet re-forming in 2005 for the first of several tours.
