Polish interior minister Tomasz Siemoniak signed a regulation extending the operation of buffer zone or limited area on the border between Poland and Belarus by another 90 days.
The temporary entry ban for a stretch of more than 78 kilometres along the border will come into force on Sunday, June 8.
The restriction is intended to ensure the safety of Border Guard, soldiers, policemen and other law inforcement officers patrolling the zone, support the modernisation of border security infrastructure and limit the activity of groups illegally trafficking migrants into Poland.
The buffer zone was first introduced on June 13 2024, following a rise in attacks by illegal migrants on law inforcement officer at the Polish-Belarussian border. Since then it has been extended in successive 90-day periods.
