Miles & Meaning is the final movement of a six-song cycle about a man who leaves everything he built, drives into the open country, and never quite comes back. Not because he’s lost. Because the road turned out to be the only place where the questions stopped demanding answers and started simply keeping him company.

This is the song where he disappears.
Not dramatically. Not with ceremony. Just a half-step modulation downward in the final verse — the musical equivalent of a light going out in a distant window — and then an unresolved chord that rings until the silence takes it.

The steel guitar has been his interior voice since the first mile. The Stratocaster has carried the melodic thread he started with and couldn’t put down. By the time you reach this song, both instruments have earned everything they play.

There are harmonies here, but they leave before the end. That was always the plan. Some things can only finish in a single voice, on an empty road, with the radio gone to static and the last town forty miles behind.

He doesn’t arrive anywhere.

That’s not a flaw in the story.
