http://www.euronews.com/ Early celebrations for Kurdish New Year were broken up by police in Turkey, in a sign of the growing tensions between the government and Turkey's Kurdish minority.
A large gathering in Diyabakir was broken up by police using water cannon, tear gas and batons.
The Kurdistan Workers Party, known as PKK, called for demonstrations ahead of Newroz, which begins on March 21.
Police arrested over 120 protesters at another large Newroz gathering just outside the capital Istanbul.
Seven people have been injured in clashes with the police. T
he unrest happened as authorities tried to prevent two groups of more than 1,000 people coming together.
Twenty percent of Turkey's population is made up of Kurds, who are demanding greater cultural rights and autonomy.
