Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orléans are three songs written by the French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918). This is his only composition for unaccompanied choir ('a cappella'), and was finished in 1908. It is set to the medieval poetry by Charles, Duke of Orléans (1394-1465). The three songs are entitled:
I. Dieu! qu’il la fait bon regarder! (God, how good it is to look upon her)
II. Quant j’ai ouy le tabourin (When I hear the tambourine)
III. Yver, vous n’estes qu’un villain (Winter, you're nothing but a villain)
The work was originally scored for 4-6 voices (or choir), but this recording is of an original arrangement by Julian Bryan for soprano/mezzo soprano with an upwardly extended piano accompaniment and optional contralto or violin. It is performed here by Sophie Clarke, with Benedict Holland on violin and David Jones on piano. It is recorded by the award-winning 'Prima Facie' Records label: https://tinyurl.com/2mub3f7x
The CD recordings will soon be available from major UK music retailers, including Presto Music: https://tinyurl.com/3njkcczb
