Supplies:
Cardboard, double wall if you have some will be helpful. I recycled shipping boxes.
Butcher paper, kraft paper, easel paper, or packing paper. You could even use newspaper if you want.
PVA glue (school glue or Mod Podge)
Hot glue and a glue gun (I recommend the big size)
Floral wire or a 16g jewelry wire.
Buttons of an assorted size or small drawer pulls (if you use drawer pulls you won't need the wire.)
Box cutters and craft knives
A hand drill (not a power drill), rotary tool, drill bit, tapestry needle, or awl. (Something you can use to poke small holes.)
The whole piece measures out to about 26.5" x 26.5".
Each of the 25 drawers is made up of:
1 - Front: 5" x 5"
2 - Sides: 9" l x 4.5" h
2 - Bottom (glued together): 8.75" x 4.5"
1 - Back: 4.75" w x 4.5" h
2 bits of wire approx. 4"-5" long
A stack of buttons in a size gradient. (I have four on the outside and one inside each drawer)
A label printed out on card stock
The vertical and horizontals for the drawer alcoves, or inner frame, are two pieces of cardboard glued together to create double wall measuring 26" x 9.5".
The drawer box, or outer frame, is also made of cardboard glued together in three layers to create added stability. It measures about 26.5" x 10".
The back is multiple layers of cardboard, fitting inside the outer frame, glued together with a layer of packing paper in first to be the clean back of the drawer alcoves.
There was a LOT of hot glue used to hold it all together and a LOT of PVA glue (white school glue or "Mod Podge") used to paper mache the packing paper on. I absolutely loved making this! I've wanted one for a while and making it with my own hands made me really happy. I was inspired watching a few different artists and makers on YouTube.
It's a little rough around the edges, it doesn't sit completely flat, and some of the drawers are too loose or too tight, but it's mine. I made it and I learned a bunch of things while doing so. I'd love to make another! My next idea though is a cabinet! I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to do it yet, but I'll figure it out.
I'd like to say thank you to my Patrons Donna and Traci!
Until next time, my lovelies, what are you creating today?
Leah
