Violent knife attack spurs new wave of anti-immigrant violence across Belfast

Описание: Crowds of anti-immigration demonstrators took to the streets of Belfast, Northern Ireland on Tuesday night, where they burned homes, buses, cars and other buildings, forcing residents, including young children, to flee.

The demonstrations were spurred by footage of 40-year-old Stephen Ogilvie, being violently attacked by an alleged Sudanese man in Belfast earlier this week. Ogilvie is currently recovering in hospital after losing his left eye and suffering serious injuries to his face and back.

Authorities, politicians and the victim’s family have urged the public to remain calm as heightened ‌tensions across the UK are at a breaking point following the murder of a student who was handcuffed by police as he lay dying from stab wounds after his killer, a Sikh man, falsely alleged a racist attack.
