Описание: Maybe this was the Victor label apologizing for giving short shrift to the emergent dance band music of the 1910s, but I'm sure glad they recorded this excellent group, which beat Paul Whiteman to the punch when it came to dance charts with a Dixieland texture. Paul Biese's sides (this one is from 12/16/1919) have a loose, almost Art Hickman-style polyphony, something missing from Whiteman's earliest sides, which placed the emphasis on precision. I love Whiteman's music to death, so I'm not suggesting one approach is better than the other. Looking in Rust, I see only five Biese titles on Victor--too bad there weren't more. But Victor was catching on--there was gold in these jazz-style dance scores.
