Maligne Lake is the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies at 22 km (13.7 miles) long.
The lake’s unique blue color comes from glacial rock flour suspended in the water.
Spirit Island was made famous by a Kodak photo exhibit displayed in New York’s Grand Central Terminal in 1960.
The lake is fed and drained by the Maligne River, which disappears underground in the famous Maligne Canyon.
