Most wine content online skips the part that actually matters: the decision.
What made you choose this bottle over the one next to it? Was the price fair? This video tries to answer those questions honestly. Not for clicks, but because they're genuinely hard, and I think working through them out loud is more useful than a polished recommendation list.
The experiment: one fixed budget ($500), six bottles, four shops in New York City. The purchases are real. The prices are retail. Nothing was gifted or sponsored.
The bottles:
1. Stein Palmberg Riesling Kabinett Trocken Alte Reben 2022 — $44 (Crush Wine & Spirits)
2. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully 2017 — $59 (Acker Wines)
3. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru Le Meix Cadot 2022 — $124 (Tribeca Wine Merchants)
4. Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Pertuisots 2013 — $95 (Crush Wine & Spirits)
5. Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean Rouge 2021 — $110 (Acker Wines)
6. André Jacquart Soléra Réserve Perpétuelle 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut — $59 (Empire State of Wine, disgorged April 2020)
If you're someone who finds wine pricing opaque or frustrating, that's exactly the audience I had in mind when making this.
