Or worse, you get greedy, move your take profit higher, and watch the entire move revert to zero. The "math of regret" shows that the gains you miss by fiddling with your trades far outweigh the pennies you save by "closing early."

Mastering Dynamic Risk If you want to level up, you have to transition from emotional reactions to dynamic risk management. This means having a pre-set plan to move your stop to break even or taking off 50% of the position once you hit a 2R return. Professional trading is about managing probability, not managing your anxiety.

Transcript: Best piece of advice I give to like a new trader is when you enter a trade, put on your stop loss and you take profit and do not touch that trade until it hits one of those two orders. Cuz the amount of money that I've missed out on or loss by closing early before it hits my stop or not taking profit, well, it's going to go a little higher like I think this might go for 4 hour, right? I'm going to let it ride. And then it fully reverts, right? Or it comes close to my stop loss, doesn't stop me out, then it goes into take profit. That outweighs the money I would have saved by closing that trade early or letting it run that extra few points. I think trade management in terms of, you know, dynamic risk reward, so adjusting your stop to break even or taking half the position off at 2 R.
