September 1967. The Marines of the 5th Regiment walked into the Que Son Valley on a routine sweep. What they found was a nightmare. The NVA was waiting, dug in, and ready to fight. What followed was four days of the most intense combat Marines experienced in the entire Vietnam War.
Companies were ambushed and nearly wiped out. Hand-to-hand fighting in the jungle. Men killing each other at arm's length with bayonets and rifle butts. 127 Marines killed. Over 300 wounded. Entire platoons cut down in kill zones they never saw coming.
