MASHPEE, MA- Funeral for Marine Daniel McGuire- killed in Iraq (08-23-08)

Описание: The town of Mashpee came together as a community honoring two of their own fallen sons.

Five hundred people turned out at the town's Veterans' Memorial for a candlelight vigil honoring Marine Private first class Daniel McGuire and Army Private first class Paul Conlon, killed in the line of duty on consecutive days.

McGuire was killed on security patrol in Iraq just outside Fallujah last Thursday. Conlon was struck by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on Friday.

Both are graduates of Mashpee High School where on Monday grief counselors were made available. "We're never going to see them again. They were fighting for us and this is the only way we can give back to them," said Heather Russo a friend of both servicemen who attended the vigil.

The ceremony was organized by the Conlon family, which was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. McGuire's body is due to return home on Wednesday, a funeral will be held on Saturday. Arrangements for Paul Conlon are not yet complete.
