THE HOE PHASE RUINED SOCIETY: THE CASE OF SEXUAL LIBERATION

Описание: Unpopular-ish opinion: the hoe phase ruined society. Let's discuss the case of sexual liberation. The Sexual Liberation Movement aka the Sexual Revolution was a social movement that challenged traditional codes of behavior related to sexuality and interpersonal relationships. The Sexual Revolution was popularized in the 1960's and 1970's and was arguably catalyzed by the release of the birth control pill in 1960.

Although the Sexual Revolution provided benefits such as sexual education and reproductive rights, there were a LOT of downsides as well: increased STD rates, increased number of sexual partners at an earlier age, increased divorce rates, decreased marriage rates, increased abortion rates, and children born out of wedlock - to name a few. We began to notice a major shift toward sex before before marriage which led to the casual sex culture that plagues us today. My perspective: sexual liberation/the sexual revolution did not benefit women - or society - as much as we thought it would.

As a woman, I do agree with some aspects of feminism: equal pay, voting rights, job opportunities, etc. However, I don't agree with the notion that women should be moving in the same MANNER as men; for this reason, I have very mixed viewpoints on the pros and cons of the feminism movement. The ongoing battle to gain social acceptance for the things that men do has actually been of detriment to women. As a result, the fight for sexual liberation has actually done quite the opposite and men still have the upper hand when it comes to sex in relationships. Setting the bar higher, being selective about who has access to our bodies, and setting the expectation that our standards be met before we hop in bed: that is true liberation.

The long term consequences of sexual liberation and/or the "hoe phase" typically outweigh the good. Unfortunately, many of us are operating under the illusion of sexual freedom. Let's discuss.
