[Gopher Tortoise Relocation, How it works]
[Pictures of the process of finding the gopher tortoises]
The Gopher Tortoise is a keystone species because their burrows are shared with more than 350 other species.
To build on land with gopher tortoises you must have them relocated, this way they are protected.
[Video is shown of the burrow and the machines used to dig it up]
Burrows average 6.5 feet deep, but this first one was about 9 feet deep.

They use this pole to figure out which direction the burrow is going and how much deeper they need to dig

If you see a tortoise crossing a busy road, FWC grants permission to move it across the street safely
