Описание: Biological soil crust (biocrusts) are the community of lichens, mosses, cyanobacteria, and more which bind together the soil surface in drylands. Often overlooked, biocrusts are an integral member of intact arid ecosystems and have complex influences on water infiltration, soil stability, nutrient cycling, and plant communities. Lydia Bailey, a PhD candidate at Northern Arizona University, is working with the Wenatchee Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management to develop and test methods for growing and applying biocrust materials in sagebrush restoration projects. Her talk will provide an introduction to the field of biocrust restoration and describe Lydia's ongoing projects in Washington.
