Advocates of the High Court, led by Counsel Timothy Balida, have embarked on a nationwide sensitization drive to promote peaceful, lawful, and responsible elections across Uganda. While addressing residents of Mbale City, the advocates emphasized the importance of peaceful co-existence among citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
The legal team reminded the public that while elections are temporary, human life and property are permanent and must always be protected. As part of voter education, citizens are being guided on the proper use of the new Biometric Voter Verification Machines, ensuring every voter understands the process and can exercise their right without confusion or delay.
Counsel Tonny Tummukude urged Ugandans to avoid violence and mob justice, advising that any electoral grievances should be addressed through legal channels, including the Electoral Commission and Courts of Law. He further clarified that while citizens may observe the vote-counting process, the authority to officially declare results lies solely with the Electoral Commission.
The advocates called on all Ugandans to reject political rhetoric that promotes lawlessness and instead act with restraint, responsibility, and respect for the law to safeguard the country’s democratic future.
