Whitewater
This video is not a substitute for a swiftwater rescue course. It is a comparison of knives that I have in order to see how different blades perform.
I learned a bit about serrated blades while doing this, and I also learned that the line cutter I used to carry is not effective as a strap cutter, so it will remain a SCUBA tool for me.
This is not an exhaustive list of rescue cutting tools, but I think I managed to capture the majority of cutting tool types.
I do not use pointed knives on the river because there have been past incidents of people cutting themselves or subjects they're trying to help due to accidental stabbing. The whitewater environment often includes limited visibility, in particular for entrapment hazards. A pointed blade can add hazard to an already fast-moving situation.
