THE LAST HERO OF THE SOVIET UNION

Описание: The documentary film “In the name of life” in the Russian language will be displayed on the regional TV channel “Piratin” of Ukraine`s Poltava province on April 26 at 21:25 Kiev time, the Directorate of the Ukrainian TV channel reported.

The film, which is the project of CBC TV channel, is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the death of last hero of the Soviet Union, Oleg Babak, who was Ukrainian by origin. The documentary depicts the act of bravery of the lieutenant of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, who saved the peaceful Azerbaijani population at the cost of his own life during another armed attack of the Armenian militants at Yukhari Jibikli of Gubadli district.

On April 7, 1991, during the armed attack at Yukhari Jibikli village of Gubadli district from Goris and Kafan districts of Armenia, the troop under the command of 24-year old officer, Oleg Babak, started an unequal battle with the Armenian terrorist units. Covering the civilians of the Azerbaijani village, during about 2 hours, lieutenant Babak was beating off the attacks of the fierce Armenian militants and he killed approximately 30 terrorists. However, the Armenian militants surrounded him and treacherously shot him in the back.

The creative crew of CBC TV channel has discovered this and many other facts during a set of meetings in Ukraine and Russia with the eyewitnesses and participants of that battle and all these were collected and shown in the documentary - investigation “In the name of life”. The premier of the film was held on CBC TV channel on April 15.
