We need an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) in a microcontroller because most real-world signals (like temperature, light, sound, pressure, etc.) are analog, but microcontrollers can only process digital signals (0s and 1s). An ADC converts these analog signals into digital values that the microcontroller can read, interpret, and act upon. This allows microcontrollers to interface with sensors, perform measurements, and make decisions based on physical inputs
The XADC Wizard is a Vivado IP core that enables easy access to the built-in 12-bit ADC available in Xilinx 7-series FPGAs, allowing you to digitize both internal signals (like temperature and supply voltages) and external analog inputs via VAUX.
