Power plant fire cuts power for 370,000 homes in Queensland

Описание: A major fire at a power station in Central Queensland took around 375,000 homes off the power grid with approximately 125,000 properties still in the dark.

The Callide Power Station, operated by CS Energy, near Biloela in Central Queensland suffered a fire in one of the turbines just before 2pm on Tuesday resulting in three of the power generating units going offline.

The fire and subsequent power outage caused hundreds-of-thousands of homes to lose power with some reports suggesting the widespread blackout was being felt from the Gold Coast up to Townsville.

CS Energy released a statement clarifying the situation, and said there were no reported injuries at the fire site.

”We immediately evacuated the power station and called emergency services to attend the site,” the statement read.

“At this stage there are no reported injuries. We are investigating the incident and will provide further updates as they become available.”
