In response to UNEP's report which outlines a global rise in food waste of up to 50% during religious festivities, Hilton scaled up its Green Ramadan 2025 programme, focusing on local sourcing and sustainable gastronomy across 45 hotels in 14 countries across the EMEA and APAC regions.
During this year's Green Ramadan, 342,559 guests were served, achieving:
• 26% reduction in plate waste in the first 4 weeks
• 64g of waste per cover from week 4 onwards – down from 152g in 2023, a 58% improvement
Delivered with UNEP West Asia’s Recipe of Change and Winnow, the initiative included staff training, smarter menus, smaller portions, and waste diversion through donation and composting.
This initiative supports Hilton's 2030 Travel with Purpose goal, creates positive environmental and social impact, and shows us that when people who care come together, we can truly create a culture of change.
